"Best around when it works." 2010-10-24
By Richard
Sending my second one back for replacement at this time. First one worked very well for about 7 months then just went dead. Second one arrived and worked fine except for a slight "ticking" sound when it was heating. I figured I could live with this. However, over time this "ticking" has turned into a very loud banging sound when the heater is on. Sleeping with the heater on is not possible. In fan only mode the ticking is much less so it must have something to do with the heating element. I will give this heater another try because it works so well when it works. A side note - the remote temp sensor on both models is of no value. Neither worked for me and temperature readings were erroneous at best.

"Great Customer Service... TERRIBLE PRODUCT!!!!!" 2010-10-05
By happyshopper81
We have had our TVH600 replaced 3 times. The first one lasted about 10 months before the automatic turn-off began to just shut the unit off all the time and eventually it stopped working all together. The second unit, we had for about a week and never worked properly! It tripped off constantly and smelled like it was burning, plus the cord would get really really HOT. The third unit worked for 1 day before the thermostat was reading 68 degrees and it was set to 72 degrees and blowing cold air. The company has been absolutely wonderful about replacing the units, but this particular model is garbage, plain and simple. Vornado is going to send me another model, this time, so hopefully this one works.

"disappointment" 2010-02-01

I was very close of buying the Vornado TVH600. The reviews that I have read were negitive enough to tell anyone that maybe we need to look at something else.

"Toasty heater, but trips carbon monoxide alarm" 2010-01-15
By Tim Deruwebh (WeHo, NYC, & Stuart, FL)
I have a 180 sq. ft. RV that has an integrated forced air propane heating system. I was looking for an electric alternative heating source for when I am plugged into 120 Volt electricity source. I settled on this model of the Vornado heater based upon the reviews at Amazon.

The first night I used it, it was 42 degrees outside - and app. 52 degrees inside the RV, which has double paned windows and heavy insulating window shades. I was somewhat disappointed at the forced heat being propelled by what I perceived as an underpowered fan. I have a vornado fan, and the volume of air being generated by the heater unit was app. 90% less tan that of the stand alone fan.

Nevertheless, the unit warmed the ambient temperature of the interior space to a comfortable degree within a relatively short amount of time - app. 20 minutes.

Then the carbon monoxide alarm in my RV was set off. I shut off the vornado heater, ventilated the RV (with ice cold air), and decided to try again the next day, when the ambient outside temperature was 64 degrees. Within a short period of time, the carbon monoxide alarm was again set off. It seems that using this vornado forced air heater in an RV for the minimal amount of time needed to raise the indoor temperature to a comfortable setting generates an unhealthy amount of carbon monoxide.

Having used the propane fueled ducted heat in the RV without tripping any alarms, I conclude that the carbon monoxide is not a product of heating the interior surfaces/finishes of the RV. I googled this model of forced air vornado heater and carbon monoxide, and found no relevant hits. Perhaps it is simply not able to be used inside an RV.

I am returning the item to Amazon, and will replace it with a different brand of forced air electric heater. Only then will I be able to tell whether carbon monoxide production is a feature of this class of product, or just the vornado.

I would advise anyone buying this product to take the precaution of also purchasing a cheap carbon monoxide alarm.

"second times the charm" 2010-07-23
By R. Boling (Elmhurst, IL)
I have owned this for about a year now and so far so good. The first units auto ignition failed after just a few days of use but Amazon was fast at sending a replacement.

The unit starts easily and will burn for a long time on a full tank. I use it to heat my garage for winter home brewing and it kept the 2 car detached garage with no drywall of insulation warm enough to be comfortable with a medium jacket when it was about 15* outside.

The only complaint is the handle. Even with the tank empty the handle came off while moving it a few times. And with the fuel tank full don't even think about moving it using the handle. besides that it does its job.

"Great product!" 2010-02-11
By Andrew Engler
This heater is just perfect for a workshop, garage, basement, etc.Once mine is warmed up (about 10 minutes) it raises my 1800 ft2 basement/workshop from 56 to 70 degrees in less than an hour. This is NOT an insulated area of the home and this is Northern New England weather so trust me it works great!. Some reviews say it is hard to assemble...but if you actually have any problem with that, you likely should not be messing with a kerosene heater anyways!. It is simple to put together, fuel, and light. If you are not used to running these things you might have to fool with it some to find the "sweet" spot where you have zero odor.If it still smells, you do not have QUALITY K-1 fuel. Buy from a different source and use scented additive if needed. Overall, a terrific heat source if maintained and used properly. ENSURE you have a CO detector in your home...you should have one anyways but it is a lifesaver if you use any Carbon based fuel!

Andrew, New Hampshire

"Prone to shipping damage due to company packing." 2010-02-07
By Dennis Dale (Merlin, Oregon United States)
Sengoku CV-2230 is a great product. The problem is at the company and how they package this item. Product has poor packing design if you should ship as-is in its orginal box and condition through any mail system! Suggest company ship in either an additional box or redesign its current box with some extra packing to sides and top of unit as this item can be easily damaged in transit due to lack of needed packing protection via mail delivery system. Otherwise, a great product that is packaged under a variety of different product names and is universal in nature to it's replacement products; i.e. wick, ignition ass'y, & etc... for the Sengoku CV-2300, or MegaHeat 230, or KH-250, and various other descriptive names for same product. Note: All model names use the same wick...just each model will have its own unique part number for the same wick! Also highly recommend that you buy some KEROSENE ADDITIVE for your kerosene use to help clean the wick, disperses water and I use the "pine" scented additive just because some people are sensitive to a very faint order of burnt kerosene noted with heater use. Recommend you start unit OUTSIDE first prior to bringing unit inside and the trimming of the kerosene wick will determine any kersosene smell.

"Great heat, but pricey fuel." 2010-01-02
By Jeremy
I use this heater in my basement/workshop. Turning the unit on is an easy straight forward process, although the siphon pump supplied to fill it with kerosene works just a little under par. This little heater produces an amazing amount of heat, and usually runs between 6 and 9 hours on a full tank. Most of the reviews on Amazon are quite accurate. There isn't much adjustment in flame(just right or wrong), it will occasionally set off my smoke detectors(but there is no visible smoke), the handle is a little on the flimsy side(especially when full of fuel), and finding K-1 grade kerosene can at times be a bit troublesome. Two and a half gallons of kerosene costs about $13.00 at the local hardware store. I wouldn't put this heater in the ultra efficient category, but I believe most of the future buyers of this unit will find it a good value based on its purchase price, and the amount of clean heat it produces.

"Finally warm!" 2009-12-22
By Jonathan (Columbus, IN United States)
Our large, drafty, almost uninsulated rental home has a heat pump for "heat", and after one winter of freezing to death we bought this heater... Boy, is it nice to be warm again with REAL heat! We had blocked off rooms and used electric heaters before, and at times supplemented it with the central system which had to use resistance heat at the tune of $2.00 and HOUR to run. Seemed the second the central unit went out, the house was freezing again.

This Kerosene heater is very easy to use, requires minimal maintenance, and puts out a LOT of heat fast. Only real smell is at start-up and especially at shutdown, but if you take the heater outside to start and stop, actual in use smell is almost zero if you use it properly. By properly for my particular unit means flame height as high as possible w/o curling (sooting), and adjusting the burner. Quality of the fuel obviously is a factor, and I have had pretty good luck with the un-dyed K-1 from several stations. With good fresh K-1 fuel, and the unit adjusted properly at operating temp, there is no odor, or so faint I have to try and smell for it, and there has absolutely never been any sooting. You will learn how to adjust the unit as the fuel warms/unit gets hotter, and really enjoy the experience. My family enjoys the soft steady glow the heater makes, and it's nice steady heat, not the on/off feeling from central.

Although the product is perfectly safe for indoor use, I do use and highly recommend a CO detector, never sleeping with the heater on, and not have it too far from where you are to be able to keep an eye on it.

Pro's not mentioned:

- Actual use times relative to consumption seem longer than stated. I have used it 12 hrs straight, and no way used close to all the fuel. Seems the fuel gage reads "F" way before the tank is actually full, and "E" well before actually empty.
- Extra wicks if needed are very easy to get, but I don't see the need for a new one anytime soon if you "dry burn" as is required every so often.
- Lots of safety is built into the unit, and it does have an auto shut off should it fall over
- No electricity needed, so they are the perfect "blackout" heating solution
- 2 yr warranty

Cons:

- Contact made to Sengoku USA by email has never been returned, so there may be CS issues down the road
- Although generally well made, there are some issues, especially the carrying handle. It flexes a lot especially when the heater is full of fuel, and the handle can slip out because the holes in the side of the heaters sheet steel get wallowed out. To stop this I installed some wire clips, and so far so good.

For our situation (no nat gas available), this heater was the best choice over paying for propane to be installed, or using the creosote laden fireplace. I read a lot of hype, hyperbole, and flat out BS about the dangers of using a Kerosene heater indoors... Yeah, they must really be death machines seeing how the Japanese by the tens of millions use them almost exclusively for primary heating of their non central heat homes. Bottom line, learn how to safely use them/maintain them, and you will be rewarded with plenty of economical heat.

"Great, for small spaces" 2010-10-24
By O. Binder (CA)
The greatest pro: very quiet (I have had many heaters in the past, since I have cold feet, they were all noisy. This one exceeded my expectations in that respect) . Also stylish looking.

Con: Good for small areas. Like my bathroom.

I will certainly recommend to buy it!

"Perfect for office" 2010-09-02
By Maggie
I bought this heater after reading reviews on Amazon and other websites. My office is too cold. If I wear a skirt in the summer, I have to go outside to warm up every couple of hours. I needed a heater that is small and quiet enough that nobody would notice when I hide it under my desk. This is just the perfect one! It is not bulky at all, and the noise level is well below my expectation. I can only hear it working if I put my ear within 1 feet of it. Otherwise, complete silence in my office. Very happy with my purchase so far. Don't know about the quality yet, but I hope it will last a while.

"only good for personal heater" 2010-03-26
By James S. Leblanc
Don't buy this Sunpentown SPT SH-1507 if you are using it to heat an area its only good for personal heater. Heat comes out ok but very poor projection only 2ft after that you can't feel anything. Using this unit in 10x12 bathroom it does not do the job at heating it you can't even feel it unless you are next to it. Not what I expexted, I don't understand why so many people rated this high.

"Modern design with good performance" 2010-03-16
By mygirlmom (Florida)
Yes, it is smaller than you would think, noted by other reviewers. This unit would be most appropriate for heating a small space. I use mine in a large drafty master bath that is always cold. Sometimes I will take it with me to the family room to use as a personal heater near the chair I am sitting in. It just isn't big enough to heat a large room, which is fine for my purposes. I just wanted to be able to heat up the immediate area so I wouldn't have to turn up the heat for the entire house.

I really like the air filter, the fan only setting (should be useful when the weather gets warmer), the oscillation on/off button, and two heat settings. Two improvements I would like: ridges on the knob so it was easier to turn, and the exact same design in a larger model. This is one of the more contemporary designs I could find for the price. It doesn't look cheap like many other plastic heaters do. Once I took it to yoga class (the heat in the building was out)and everyone was commenting on how cute and nice looking it was. It does have an indented handle on the back so you can easily and safely pick it up to move around.

As far as safety goes, it really does stay cool to the touch. I have had it running full blast, turned it off and then immediately touched the the heat output area. I found it comfortable to touch, barely warm. Obviously I wouldn't do that while it's running, as the air coming out is what is hot. I have kids and pets and I consider this very safe. It has the little pressure button on the bottom that shuts it off if it tips, or even if it looses contact with the floor if you happen to tilt it while moving it.

"Very pleased!" 2010-03-08

This little space heater is heating our 10x12 room wonderfully! We even have to turn it down sometimes! And, the price was just right, too.

"Fan is Noisy!" 2010-01-21
By T. Gillett (San Rafael, CA United States)
I've had this Lasko heater for 2+ years and it has worked like a charm... reliable, durable, a little soldier churning out heat. Controls are easy to use and there is a fan only setting for hot days. I keep it near me so the heat output is fine (not trying to heat up the entire room).

What I don't like about it though (and hence my 3 star rating) is the noise from the fan --- it's soooo loud; too loud to have in my office when I'm on the phone, and too loud in the room when the tv is on. If you want white noise when you fall asleep, this is the fan for you. But I'm looking for a new QUIET heater to replace this unit.

"Great Little Heater" 2010-01-13
By PBV (USA)
I am very pleased with this heater. It's quiet and puts out a lot of heat for its size. The dual setting is nice to control output. The thermostat seems to work OK. I have no complaints.

"Very satisfied" 2010-01-03
By A. Richards (Minnesota, USA)
This heater successfully heats up small areas without taking up a lot of space. It's sturdy, solid, and doesn't get hot on the outside. It sounds like a regular room fan on a high setting. It smells really "toxic" at first, but that goes away after a couple uses. It warms up my unheated front porch to about 68F even when it's -10F outside.

"Vibrates floor" 2009-12-11
By D. Gilford
We bought this at a local store. Great little heater. Heats our small room quickly, especially on the oscillate function. The fan is pretty quiet; however, it vibrates a lot. It vibrates the floor and even our kitchen table! We tried to put it on a rug to see if it would help, but it only helped a little bit. The vibration noise is like a dull bass feeling in the bones, like when you know a big truck is parked outside, idling it's motor. The heater kicked off for a few minutes, then when it went back on automatically it startled us! It sounded like a plane just landed abruptly in our kitchen! A nice heater except for this. It set our nerves on edge after just a few minutes of this constant vibrating growl. We are returning it. Maybe it would work for you if you aren't too sensitive to noise and vibrating furniture.

"Reliable, SAFE Heat!" 2010-03-16
By Lambchop (Gulfport, FL United States)
In my opinion, DeLonghi oil-filled portable radiators are one of the best options for safe, reliable room heating. There is nothing to spill, no open flames, and nothing gets so hot that it would burn you instantly. You don't have to fear falling asleep while they are heating. They're nicely designed and unobtrusive, making no noise other than the occasional tick or pop as the thermostat cycles and they heat up or cool down. I find this a comforting reminder that my heater is doing its job. No assembly is required other than rotating the feet out--just pop it out of the box and it's ready to go! The cord has a holder around which it can coil, eliminating the need to tie it up, and since you just wind the cord around it, you don't have to worry that some automatic retraction device will get stuck. This model can be used with the thermostat or without, and both are very simple to operate. All controls were easy to see, even in dim light, and the instructions were clear. It's very easy to move the heater from room to room, even if it is hot, using the little hand-hold. This heater kept a very large bedroom and bath pleasantly warm even on the low setting, while outside temperatures were 36 to 43 degrees, wet, and windy. The color is a tasteful grayish white with dark gray accents, so don't be turned off thinking this is "refrigerator white." I would definitely buy another DeLonghi like this one!

"Beware Honeywell/Kax Heater nearly burned down my House" 2009-12-29
By Robert S. Evans (Boston)
I purchase 2 units just like this. (not from this seller)

The thermostat stopped working on both of them in about the same time period @1 month. They in turn overheated and nearly caused an electrical fire, thank goodness my wife was home to see what was happening.

I called HoneyWell/Kaz (the real company name is KAZ Inc I found out, but they kept the Honeywell name for obvious reasons). They were extremely defensive and told me to send the heaters back for refund and that they would conduct a FULL-Analysis and get back to me. When I called back later they could hardly remember me or the problem and I was shuffled me into Voice-mail, I must have called 7 times. I then called the Fed Trade Commission to issue a consumer warning against this product, they immediately sent someone over to review the damage and file a report.

The FTC called Honeywell/Kaz and demanded the defective heaters be sent to them, but lucky for Kaz (I sarcastically write) they had disposed of them and would not produce any such defective products. The FTC said big companies often try to get the product back so that no formal un-biased review can be performed on the product, I will be happy to provide names of individuals both at Honeywell/Kaz and the FTC, so you may corroberate these claims.

Beware these things are dangerous in my Experience, (2 of them!).
