Product Description

Baseboard heater with digital controls

Amazon.com Review

Stay cozy through the dark days of winter with this quiet digital heater from Honeywell. The 120-volt heater offers a cost-effective alternative to a central heating system, or can bring warmth to an area of activity while the overall household system runs on low. A range of safety features and Electrical Climate Control (EEC) further endear this easy-to-use heater to users. Honeywell crafted the low profile heater with flame-resistant plastic. Users monitor temperatures on an oversized LCD screen. The push-button digital comfort control allows users to designate preferred climate temperatures. Once the heater reaches the desired temperature, it displays the information on the heat indicator badge and upholds the level by EEC. Operating at a 1500-watt output, the heater uses a three-prong grounded plug to affix to power outlets. A programmable timer function enables users to predetermine automatic shut-off up in one to ten hours. For fire safety, the heater also automatically shuts off upon knock-over or if overheating. Power and caution lights also enhance safety. Do not place the heater outdoors or near flammables and avoid running the power line under carpeting. Thorough safety guidelines and assembly instructions are included. A limited five-year warranty covers this item. The heater weighs 13.1 pounds upon shipping --Jessica Reuling

"does the job" 2010-01-08
By G. Acuna (Baja, Mexico)
Placed below a window in the attic (8 cold windows total) next to an un-insulated crawling space, it does the job beautifully warming an area of 17X25, for some reason the attic is where it works best, but at 1500 watts I am moving on to new technologies (envi 450watt- jury still out on that one).

"This heater almost burned my house down!" 2009-12-29
By Robert S. Evans (Boston)
I know by reading many other reviews that people have had the same issue. Please call 877-382-4357 then 1, 2, 2 and report this to the consumer product div of the FTC they will not do anything till thay hear from you, I have already lodged a complaint they need more than me though. Please before this product kills someone or a family!

The thermostat stopped working on both of them in about the same time period @1 month. They in turn overheated and nearly caused an electrical fire, thank goodness my wife was home to see what was happening.

I called HoneyWell/Kaz (the real company name is KAZ Inc I found out, but they kept the Honeywell name for obvious reasons). They were extremely defensive and told me to send the heaters back for refund and that they would conduct a FULL-Analysis and get back to me. When I called back later they could hardly remember me or the problem and I was shuffled me into Voice-mail, I must have called 7 times. I then called the Fed Trade Commission to issue a consumer warning against this product, they immediately sent someone over to review the damage and file a report.

The FTC called Honeywell/Kaz and demanded the defective heaters be sent to them, but lucky for Kaz (I sarcastically write) they had disposed of them and would not produce any such defective products. The FTC said big companies often try to get the product back so that no formal un-biased review can be performed on the product, I will be happy to provide names of individuals both at Honeywell/Kaz and the FTC, so you may corroberate these claims.

Beware these things are dangerous in my Experience, (2 of them!). :

"Worked two years, then nothing, wouldn't buy another" 2009-12-24

Honeywell HZ519 Digital Low Profile Silent Comfort Heater
I used this heater for two years. The thermostat was not accurate, ever. It did heat the room when we set it high, but it didn't shut off.

When we brought out the heater in the third year winter, it was dead. Nothing.

The screws holding the heater together have a proprietary bizarre head, so you cannot even get into the unit to attempt to determine the problem.

No support is available. The manual is worthless.

It is very likely an issue with the inferior controls
It is built in China for Honeywell, and isn't apparently repairable.
It is not worth what we paid for it. Cheaper heaters have lasted longer for us.
I will likely not buy another Honeywell unit

"Warms the room, but gets very hot and is fairly large" 2009-11-28
By Just a guy (Westchester, NY)
This does a good job warming a room, but be careful because it gets very hot to the touch. Also, the unit itself is larger than it looks in the picture. Be sure to check out the dimensions before ordering. It has held up well over lots of use. Also, beware that it does suck a lot of energy.
